probably driver problems or your pushing that vid card too much. its not the greatest. also you coud be at too high of a resolutionMy new Gaming Rig Disapoints me ...PLZ check this out
The GPU may be slowing you down a bit, it's not exactly the best. Those 8600 series are only 128 Bit, so I think you may want to try to lower You're settings a bit perhaps. But I would think that it can run CSS without problems, Personaly from what I have been told and have bought I would have gone with a X1950Pro or the like if you can affford an 8800 series. Those mid-range 8 series realy do suck. I dont see any other parts in question, so I dont know what else it could be.

ok , from the research I've made and ure comments , I see now that the problem is I might have expected too much from this videocard ... By the way , Gamespot rules with their forums ,its my firt post and getting nice usefullreplies , its cool .
Indeed it is, I agree with the two abouve posters, that card is not at all good. If your in a pickle with the prices, may i recomend a DX9 card suck as the 7900gt or the 1900xtx.
All of you guys pretty much lost your credibility when you say the 8600GTS is so horrible that it can't play those games on high-max settings.Try getting the latest drivers or try the beta drivers. What resolution are you playing at?
I did get all the new Drivers, the New Beta Driver for windows Vista that got out the 11th of July,I'm Not saying its a bad card , maybe its not even the card.
The games are stuttering because of Vista, it happened to me and I went back to XP and it was smooth
hmm I always thought Vista had something to do with it ... It's a job all reinstalling Xp tho ...:?

Dual-boot Vista and XP.
The 8600GTS shouldn't be struggling with BF2 or the Sims. Oblivion, maybe, but still...What resolution are you gaming at?
I run it at a decent 1024x768 or something , it's not that high right? I am thinking of dual booting seriously , but whatta job..

alright , I will , thx alot for advice !
you should check the jumpers on your drives, see if anything is overheating, and make sure everything is getting enough voltage. If your computer is set up properly, and is 100% stable, you shouldn't get any stuttering or skipping.
Probably a driver issue.
I didn't know CD/DVD/HD drives still used jumpers... I didn't see any on the back of mine...

The best thing I can think of is that its running vista with a 8600. Try dual booting, if that doesn't work then check the memory. 8800s run HOT, check the temps on that, it could be the memory on the card getting too hot. If its the memory on the card, there are good heatsinks for memory.

If your using a sata1 drive with a sata2 controller setting the 150mbs jumper might help stuttering, If its a ide drive, some mother boards don't like cable select, setting master/slave can smooth things out. sometimes the other way around.
