How do I COMPLETLY reformat a HDD?

My friend comp is virused up beyond repair he has a XP disc but how would I reformat everything I mean EVERYTHING I cant even load XP with out some virus blowing it up. I need an answer fast. How do I COMPLETLY reformat a HDD?
The XP disc has a built in formatting program. When you load the OS, it will give you the option of formatting the drive.Boot from the XP disc, delete the existing partition, create a new one and then it will format the drive before it loads the OS. I recommend running the normal format vs. the optional ''quick'' format. That should do it.... Good Luck. How do I COMPLETLY reformat a HDD?
So just put the XP disc in and there is an option?

Yeah, put the disc in the drive and boot from the disc. It will give you the option to install Windows or repair it. You want the install option. Once you choose this, it will give you some options for paritioning...you want to delete your current one, the create a new one. Once this is done, It will ask you if you want a quick format or a full format. Use the full format. As simple as that...you really have to go through it yourself, cuz I don't know the exact titles of options from memory. Its pretty intuitive and I don't think you will have any problemsNow, you do know that formatting the drive is going to delete EVERYTHING on the drive, not just the virus...right?
Alright I fixed it for him im at his house right now typing on his comp while his X850XT drivers install thanks btw
